Honda launches much-awaited small car Brio in India

Japanese car major Honda launched its small car Brio in India. Brio is the latest entrant in the hugely competitive small car segment, which is also the biggest by volume.

Honda Brio would be available in four variants starting with a price tag of Rs 3.95 lakh for the base variant. The high end variant would be available for Rs 5.10 lakh. The Brio is powered by a 1.2 liter petrol engine and will compete with Maruti Ritz, Hyundai i10, Toyota Liva and Ford Figo.

This is for the first time that Indian engineers were involved in developing a new Honda model, officials said. The car has localisation of more than 80 per cent which has helped bring down the prices. Honda is aiming to achieve 90 per cent localisation soon, which will further bring down prices. Further, the localisation skills achieved by the Brio team will be used for other popular Honda models like -the City and Jazz – too, officials said.

The company will also expand its network to 143 dealerships in 91 cities from the 134 dealerships currently by the end of the year.
