Flying Maruti car at AeroIndia

Alongside the latest supersonic fighter jets and transport aircraft on display, one would also get to see an indigenously developed flying car based on the popular Maruti 800 at this year’s Aero India show beginning in Bangalore next week.

Developed by a Bangalore based company – Bangalorean – the car would be on a static display along with some of the best fighter aircraft of the world at the event from February 9th to 13th.

“A Bangalore-based gentleman has developed the concept and he claims that this car can fly. He has done necessary modifications,” Secretary Defence Production Raj Kumar Singh told reporters here.

The car is among the products that the ministry has listed as part of its showpiece in this year’s exhibition alongside fighter jets such as Eurofighter Typhoon, F-16s, F/A-18s, Gripen and Rafale.

‘This flying car is a product from a Bangalore-based innovator. He says he has the technology with which he can use a Maruti 800 car as an aircraft. To encourage him, we have provided him space at the static exhibition for aerospace products,’ Singh said here.

Asked if the car would fly too in the air show, Singh said that would not happen as the product was yet to get Directorate General of Civil Aviation approval to take to the skies. And the firm has paid about $275 per sq mt for the space it would hire at the air show to display its product.
